Shall We Dance

12A, 106 mins

More male midlife crises are on offer in Shall We Dance. Richard Gere is at his smuggest as a successful married lawyer who feels there’s something missing. He chooses to fill the gap by enrolling in ballroom-dancing evening classes, in the hope of pulling the teacher (Jennifer Lopez).

The film assumes that we’ll be moved by the magic of dance and forgive him his wandering eye because, after a steamy tango or two, he’s smarming back to his wife with a rose clenched between his teeth. Profoundly irritating.
