Service of thanksgiving

General Sir Roland Guy

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were represented by Field Marshal Sir John Stanier at a service of thanksgiving for the life of General Sir Roland Guy held yesterday in the Chapel of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea. The Rev Dick Whittington officiated, assisted by the Rev Tom Hiney.

Mrs Jilly Goldsmid, daughter, Mr Jonty Driver and Major-General Andrew Johnson read the lessons. Mrs Nicola Ponsonby, daughter, gave a reading.

Field Marshal Lord Bramall, KG, paid tribute.

Among other present were: Lady Guy, widow, Mr Luke Ponsonby, son-in-law, Mr Harry Goldsmid, Miss Clare Goldsmid, Mr Ned Posonby and Lucy and William Ponsonby, grandchildren, Mr Nicholas Goldsmid, Mr Simon Deverell with other members of the family, friends and representatives of organisations having connection with Sir Roland.
