Seeing red over Kak?

Once again the beautiful game has been brought into disrepute

Sir, So Kak? is being transferred to Real Madrid for a record fee of £56 million, an annual salary of £9 million, and a further seven-figure sum for his valuable image rights (report, Sport, June 9). These sums are quite obscene for any sports person, however talented, and especially for a 27-year-old.

Once again the beautiful game has been brought into disrepute. It is high time that football got back to its grass roots and its world governing body, Fifa, introduced a cap on transfer fees and salaries, especially at a time of global recession when so many clubs around the world are struggling to survive.
