I WORK as a virtual PA and have a great working relationship with my clients (“I want to break free”, May 11). The great thing is that I am seen as a professional, someone from whom advice and guidance can be sought.

I HAVE SAVED hard and taken out various pension plans, but if I live for 20 years after retirement, £20,000 of my savings will go on council tax (“Don’t be afraid of the P word,” June 8). Because I did not start paying national insurance until I was 28, my state pension will be reduced.
It’s going to be a difficult old age for many of us, despite thinking about retirement early.

IN RESPONSE to age-related comments on your pages, I no longer put my date of birth on my CV and have even knocked off the first ten jobs, yet I am still considered too old to get a good position (I am 54). I have given up. Instead, I do a part-time, badly paid, mind-numbingly boring, menial job, which a trained monkey could do, and for this I am grateful.
