A gunman has given himself up after holding a school principal hostage in a school in New York State, police said.
The stand-off took place at a school in Pine Plains, a village about 90 miles north of New York City.
Local officials said that the gunman - thought to be a parent - had been contained in a room at Stissing Mountain High School while police negotiated his hostage’s release.
Gregg Pulver, the town supervisor of Pine Plains, said that police had taken control of the school.
“They have him isolated. The students are in their classrooms, are locked down. You know, there are police in the building. They are safe at this point in time,” Pulver said.
