Sir, Linda Miller (letter, Sept 2) suggests a way of increasing teaching time during the autumn term. She should move to Scotland, where we have enjoyed her “good idea” for more than 50 years — and yes, the two extra weeks of teaching in August are invaluable. My only complaint, during 30 years of teaching, was not being able to enjoy the Edinburgh Festival each year due to pressure of work at the start of a very long term.
