School is red faced as green wind turbine takes a toss

A school that won a Green Flag award for environmental excellence watched as its £28,000 turbine came a cropper

A £28,000 wind turbine intended to boost the green credentials of Fakenham High School, Norfolk, which won a Green Flag award for environmental excellence last month, fell to the ground as it was being installed. Richard Moore, the head teacher, said: “There was no sudden gust of wind and the conditions we had were exactly what you would want.” He added: “It was supposed to be a feather in our cap and now it is a bit of an embarrassment.” There was a safety cordon excluding everyone but the installation workers, whose van was damaged.
