ONE of the world’s biggest brewers is strengthening its defences against a possible £75bn takeover offer.
SAB Miller, the maker of Peroni, has begun working with two of the City’s most respected dealmakers amid speculation that rival AB InBev will pounce.
City sources said SAB Miller has held talks with Simon Robey and Simon Warshaw to get advice on mergers and acquisitions strategy.
Since Robey, a former Morgan Stanley banker, and Warshaw, a former UBS dealmaker, set up the boutique advisory firm Robey Warshaw in 2013, they have worked on “defence” mandates for some of Britain’s biggest companies.
Last year, for example, the pharmaceutical business Astra Zeneca hired the pair to help defend it against a £70bn takeover bid from the American drug giant Pfizer.

Speculation has been mounting since last year that AB InBev and its backer, the Brazilian private equity firm 3G Capital, are looking to make an offer for SAB Miller.
