Russian sets new base jumping record

Russian Valery Rozov has set a new world record for base jumping, leaping 6,543 metres from the summit of Shiving mountain in the Indian Himalayas.

His thirty day expedition to the top of the mountain was followed by a decent of just ninety seconds, during which time he reached speeds of two hundred kilometres an hour.

Shiving, first conquered in 1974, is known as the ‘Matterhorn of the Himalayas’ due to its complicated and perilous passages. Their expedition also makes Rozov and his team the first Russians to climb to its summit.
