Russell Brand ‘not moving to Hollywood’

Russell Brand has insisted he will not be quitting London for Hollywood despite putting his Hampstead home up for sale.

At a DVD signing session for hundreds of fans in central London yesterday, the comedian said it was not a permanent move.

His girlfriend, singer Katy Perry, currently lives in Los Angeles and the pair were reportedly looking for a home in Hollywood.

But Brand said: “I’m not moving to America, I will sometimes go there. I have to go there to make films.”

He added: “We do make films in England but it’s more like a hobby. They’re like ‘Come along, we can make a film. Oh, and can you make the sandwiches?”’

Brand, 34, also denied there was any truth in rumours he will star in the next Pirates Of The Caribbean film, apart from the fact “I look a bit like a pirate”.

The Essex-born comic said his controversial past did not make him the obvious choice for a Disney movie.

However, when it was suggested he could play the brother of Johnny Depp’s character, Captain Jack Sparrow, Brand said that on second thoughts he was “swayed”.

“You know what? I’m going to phone that Mouse up (Mickey),” he said. “I will just leave an answer message if he don’t pick up” - a reference to the Andrew Sachs scandal that forced him to quit his job at BBC Radio 2 last year.

Brand’s new DVD, Scandalous: Live At The O2, is available now.
