RSII: Riding Spirits

Capcom/PS2 (£39.99)

The makers of this game must be obsessed with the size of their cylinders, because this motorcycling racing game is more about quantity than quality. It provides a multitude of gaming options, from creating your own character and customising your bike to taking part in races on a wide variety of tracks, from a basic oval to the scary collections of hairpin bends and off-road racing. There is also an interesting Battle 100 mode, in which you try to move up the rankings by taking on the 99 AI riders, one at a time.

There is a challenging game in here somewhere — that old biking problem of getting to grips with cornering is particularly well conveyed — but the unspectacular graphics and a sound engine that all too quickly reminds you of a dentist’s drill keeps it from breaking out.
