The main difference from the parade in 1747, as depicted by Canaletto, appears to be the way the rowers are facing

Sir, The most compelling difference between Canaletto’s depiction of the Lord Mayor’s Parade in 1747 and your photograph of the same scene during the Diamond Jubilee pageant (report, June 4) is that in 1747 they are rowing enthusiastically upstream while on Sunday the direction was all downstream.
