Roger Federer plans fundraiser for Haiti

Roger Federer has planned a special exhibition event tomorrow - the day before the Australian Open begins - to raise money for Haiti earthquake victims.

Players expected to join in play doubles or mixed doubles at the Rod Laver Arena include Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic, Andy Roddick, Kim Clijsters, Lleyton Hewitt and Samantha Stosur.

“I had the idea that we could do something to help Haiti after the tragic earthquake. So I spoke to some other top players ... I have some connections,” Federer said. “They all said, ‘Yes, we should do something.”

Nadal, who has been updating his Facebook status expressing his horror and sympathy for events in Haiti, thanked Federer for his idea and urged his fans: “We hope that you can come so that we raise money also with your help!”
