Richard Brooks: Biteback

Certainly, it’s a powerful work, and it’s great that the newly formed National Theatre of Scotland has got off to such a splendid start. Black Watch received a standing ovation (Celtic’s manager, Gordon Strachan, included) on the night I saw it. But its huge acclaim may in part be due to the tartan factor. After touring Scotland early next year, it will get a London run. Quite probably at the National Theatre (of England), as Nick Hytner, the National’s director, told me he’s a big fan.
