The brother of Lamara Bell, who died after police failed to respond to a crash on the M9 for three days, has told police officers to report failings to “save any more people from dying”.
“They signed up to serve and protect and this isn’t happening right now,” Martin Bell said. “The public have lost all faith and respect. Surely they didn’t want to be in the force to be looked at like this. If 999 calls are being unattended it is serious and it’s only a matter of time before there is another fatality due to this mess the system is in.”
Last week an anonymous whistleblower said the force was “on its knees” as control rooms struggled with the volume of calls. He said: “I know for a fact, having spoken to some of my colleagues in the control rooms, that treble nine calls are still not being actioned, so they are not being resourced and members of the public are not being given the service that they deserve.”
