Regimental colours

The time is right to transfer to Dublin Cathedral the 11 sets of regimental colours of the Irish regiments disbanded in June 1922

Sir, Given that the Olympic Torch is to be carried through Dublin today, the time may be also be right to transfer to Dublin Cathedral the 11 sets of regimental colours of those fine Irish regiments disbanded in June 1922. The colours were handed to George V, who was moved to tears during his farewell speech to the Irish Colour parties.

The colours, emblazoned with battle honours ranging from Plassey to the Somme, were hung in Windsor Castle, where they remain.

Perhaps it is now time for them to go home.
