With Covid cases under control in the UK, the government’s so-called road map out of lockdown moves to its next phase tomorrow, including the reopening of “non-essential” shops.

Many people still feel nervous of the coronavirus and are wary of visiting crowded places. Others find the convenience of buying online too good to leave behind. On top of that, a lot of businesses have failed during lockdown, leaving some shopping streets much changed.

However, as we reveal today, for every vanished chain store, an independent business has appeared: everything from organic wine shops to health food stores and yoga studios. For many the high-street experience will be better than ever.
