Rangers have offered Glen Kamara a new, improved contract and are waiting for the highly rated midfielder to decide where his long-term future lies.
Steven Gerrard, the manager, said yesterday that he would love to keep Kamara and that they had made a “really good” offer to renew his current contract, which expires in 2023.
He said that Kamara’s representatives were satisfied with the terms of the proposed deal, and that it was now up to the 25-year-old, who joined Rangers from Dundee in January 2019.
“He’s extremely important to keep at the football club,” Gerrard said. “His progress since we took him in from Dundee has been clear for everyone to see. He’s gone on to become a real, established international player [with Finland]. We know he can handle any football game here. I love the kid. I love the player. And I’ve made it abundantly clear how much I want him to stay from a personal point of view.
“There is a real, strong, good offer on the table for Glen. So the speed at which this happens is totally on Glen. The ball is firmly in his court. The offer is really good from the club. His advisers are happy with the offer. So now it’s totally down to Glen.

“The question should really go in Glen’s direction because we’re ready, waiting and hoping that it’s done as soon as possible.”
Kamara will return to Rangers’ squad for their Premiership match against Dundee United at Tannadice today. He was suspended in midweek, when they lost 2-1 to Malmo in the first leg of their Champions League third qualifying round tie.
His contract is not the only one Rangers are keen to renew. Connor Goldson, whose existing deal runs out at the end of this season, said yesterday that he had left the matter in the hands of his agent so that he could concentrate on a busy start to the season.
“I’m happy here,” Goldson said. “I’m in a good place. I feel I’m probably in the prime of my career and I’ve loved every minute I’ve been at the football club. The talks are ongoing and hopefully that can get sorted. I know there are discussions going on between the club and my representatives and the club has made it clear that they want me to stay here. When it gets done, I’m sure we will all know about it.”
