STOP THE WORLD: IT’S ANTHONY NEWLEY
Radio 2, 7pm
It is about time that said world re-acquainted itself with the ultimately unfulfilled talents of Anthony Newley, who would have turned 75 this month had he not taken his final bow in 1999. Not only was Newley a proper pop star in the Fifities, not only did he write and star in a great musical, Stop the World, I Want to Get Off, and another very good one, The Roar of the Greasepaint, the Smell of the Crowd, but he married Joan Collins back when she really was young and, most impressively, provided David Bowie with his singing voice. Jonathan Ross has the pleasure and privilege of telling us all about him over the next four weeks.

THE NEWS QUIZ
Radio 4, 6.30pm
After 11 years in the quizmaster’s chair, Simon Hoggart hands over the task of being funny off a script, rather than spontaneously, to one of the show’s regular panellists, Sandi Toksvig. How it will pan out depends on how keen Toksvig is to depart from her chosen role and mix it with the panellists; one thing for sure is that while we will miss Hoggart we will miss the wonderful Linda Smith even more.
