Quit your habit, says mother near death

SMOKERS who tried but failed to give up their habit at the new year are targeted today by an emotional television advertisement featuring a terminally ill mother talking about the plot where she will be buried.

Trudi Endersby, 43, who has lung cancer and a brain tumour, has been told by doctors that she is unlikely to survive more than two years.

Speaking from her home in Meldreth, Cambridgeshire, with her daughters, Kia, 11, and Kirsti, 20, she says: “I bought my plot at the cemetery and they came with me to choose it. Kia chose it. She was very brave. It broke my heart. At least I know she has somewhere to go when I’m not here if she just wants to talk to me.”

Kia said: “In a way I was angry with her because she knew smoking’s bad for her.”

The Department of Health advertisements bear the slogan “Smoking does not just affect you”.
