The Queen has faced months of speculation about her mobility after being pictured with a walking stick and pulling out of a Commonwealth Day service amid concerns for her comfort.

Now, however, she is thought to be cruising around Windsor Castle in a luxury four-seater golf buggy worth £62,000.

The electric cart, nicknamed “the Queen mobile”, can travel at 43mph and comes with a fridge and infotainment screen. It has a heated windscreen, cup-holders, drive-mode selection and Bluetooth speakers.

A source at Windsor told The Sun: “The cart arrived within the past fortnight. The Queen and her aides have already used it and last week she took the dogs out in it for a tour around the private grounds.

“Her Majesty is struggling with stiffness in her legs, so the cart is a perfect solution to getting her around. She’s been through a lot of physical battles recently — with Covid and her back sprain, which would take its toll on anyone, let alone someone who turns 96 next month.”

The vehicle was said to have been built by the Danish firm Garia with Mercedes-Benz.

A Buckingham Palace source said: “Windsor has a number of buggies that are used throughout the year both privately and for public events.”

The Queen has also remarked on her mobility. In a meeting with defence chiefs last month she used a walking stick and joked: “As you can see, I can’t move.”

It has been reported that she has been pacing herself in order to attend a thanksgiving service for the life of the Duke of Edinburgh at Westminster Abbey tomorrow.
