Quarry hunt begins

FORENSIC investigators began examining a disused quarry yesterday in an attempt to solve the mysterious disappearance of a woman and her young son 28 years ago.

Police suspect that the bodies of Renee MacRae, 36, and her three-year-old son Andrew may have been buried in Dalmagarry Quarry, near Inverness.

Mrs MacRae was declared missing in November 1976 after her BMW car was found in a lay-by a few hundred yards from the site on the A9.

The bodies of Mrs MacRae and her son have never been found, and earlier this month Northern Constabulary announced it was reopening the inquiry following the emergence of new leads. Diggers have spent the past few weeks clearing trees from the site.

Morag Govans, Mrs MacRae’s sister, said that she welcomed the fresh investigation. “I am hopeful they can find Renee and Andrew and we can give them a proper burial,” she said.
