Prostitute safety

From the Chairman for the Metropolitan Police of the Police Superintendents Association

Sir, Once again this Government conspires to ignore expert professional advice together with the realities of modern UK society in the formulation of social policy and criminal law.

The proposals in the prostitution strategy are nothing but rhetoric too shallow even to label a compromise. The strategy is naive in the extreme and heralds nothing but a “pimps’ charter”. It provides a green light to greater violence, intimidation and exploitation of women in particular.

The Government’s continued mistaken zeal to liberalise and provide more tools in an already overflowing toolbox for the authorities only leads to confusion, more criminality and increased vulnerablities for some of the most at risk.

I would encourage the Home Office to listen and think again.

Sir, Prostitution within brothels is legal here in Australia. It provides these women with the protection and safety that they deserve.

It also gives the tax man a helping hand instead of the money going into some pimp’s back pocket.
