LEICESTER (Leicestershire won toss): Leicestershire Foxes (2pts) beat Somerset Sabres by 36 runs

UNDISPUTED masters in the art of Twenty20, Leicestershire looked novices in the NatWest Pro40 with five consecutive defeats in the second division until last night.

Nick Walker, 22, the former Derbyshire swing bowler, returned his best one-day figures of four for 26 and, although Somerset rallied with an eighth-wicket stand between Gareth Andrew and Sam Spurway, it was not enough.

The Foxes had reached 173 for eight, mainly because of Hylton Ackerman’s 51 from 62 balls, after making the tricky decision to bat on a gloomy evening. Just when they sought acceleration from 126 for four with ten overs remaining, Paul Nixon played on attempting a reverse sweep.
