The Royal Institution and the Kohn Foundation

Professor Steven Pinker, Johnstone Professor of Psychology at Harvard University, is the recipient of this year’s Henry Dale Prize (named after the neurophysiologist and Nobel laureate who directed the Royal Institution’s laboratories). The Prize was awarded to Professor Pinker by the Royal Institution and the Kohn Foundation, in recognition of his outstanding multidisciplinary approach to his research. Baroness Greenfield, Director of the Royal Institution, delivered the opening address at the award ceremony held on Monday, September 20, 2004, at the Royal Institution. Dr Ralph Kohn introduced the Henry Dale Prize and presented the award. Professor Pinker then delivered a lecture entitled “The ingredients of language”. Among those present were: Baroness Cumberledge, Dr Gail Cardew, Sir Terry Farrell, Mr Antony Forwood, Sir David Jack, Lord Jenkin of Roding, Professor Alex Markham, Lord Moser, Dr Thomas Stuttaford, Professor Sir John Meurig Thomas, Dr Alexander Todd, Ms Hilary Todd, Lord Turnberg and other distinguished guests.
