Sir, Mrs Sallie Cooper (letter, August 1) claims she would love a “mature relationship” with politicians, but seems to suggest making the size of public demonstrations a major criterion for determining government action.
Surely, mature political influence is exercised primarily through reasoned pressure on our local Members of Parliament, and not by large protest marches. These have a perfectly legitimate place in a democracy, but we cannot have a situation where those who assemble to make the most noise decide policy.
