French flush after record
As expected, the European Poker Tour (EPT) French Open in Deauville attracted a record number of players for a poker tournament in France when more than 400 players parted with €4,000 (about £2,300) to play. The final eight battle to a winner this evening.
Gardner in bloom
Virgin Poker unveiled its new sponsored players at the EPT in Deauville: Julian Gardner, the 2003 World Series runner-up from Manchester, and David Pomroy, an internet professional from London who finished third in his first leading live tournament in Dublin last year.
Classic challenge

The Los Angeles Poker Classic, a series of 28 high-stakes tournaments, is under way at the Commerce Casino. The $10,000 (about £5,740) buy-in main event begins on Thursday and is scheduled to take six days to complete.
