Andersen gets big payout
The PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) reached Denmark last week for the Scandinavian Open, a Kr30,000 (£2,750) buy-in event where footballers Jan Molby, Tomas Brolin and Stig Tofting were among the 288-player field. Mads Andersen, from Denmark, won the £235,000 first prize.
Gundesen’s prize
Anina Gundesen, 29, a law student from Denmark, became the highest-finishing female player in the EPT’s two-season history when she was knocked out in sixth place in Copenhagen. Gundesen earned her entry fee in a $13 (£7.25) online tournament and took home just over £36,500.

Nguyen returns
Scotty Nguyen struck a blow for the old guard when he won the $970,000 (£540,000) first prize in the World Poker Open in Tunica, Mississippi. Nguyen won the World Series of Poker in 1998 and has three other winner’s bracelets from World Series events.
