It is unacceptable that the main tourism authority can spend that amount of money on a golf tournament and at the same time charge the B&Bs to take their guides to the overseas tourism fairs. — John Kinsella, New Ross, Co. Wexford.

SAME SIDE: Congratulations on your editorial, (Ignore the hysteria, June 4). It was a welcome relief from, to use your own words, “a dangerous loss of proportion by sections of the public, spurred on by opportunistic elements within the media and the opposition”. It seems Justice Mary Laffoy is the silent heroine in all this. She didn’t let emotions cloud her judgment and upheld the constitution. We saw on the streets and heard on the airwaves an unbalanced, hysterical mob, dragging children along and citing scripture for its purpose. We are all on the side of children’s safety. — Sheila Griffin, Tralee.

CITY SLUR: Kathy Foley, who describes herself as a “Munster woman” and refers to “burgeoning racism”, lists a number of city mottos in an article about mottos (News Review, June 4). Giving those of Dublin and Cork without comment, this self-avowed anti-racist describes Limerick as “an Ancient City Well Versed in the Arts of War. Or Stab City for short”. Had Foley made a derogatory remark about asylum seekers or crime figures from her own sweet little town, I’m sure an apology would be forthcoming. — Mike Moloney, Limerick.
