Pod nightclub goes under the hammer

The Pod nightclub, a fixture of Dublin nightlife during the economic boom, has been put on the market after being closed for the past four years.

Estate agent Morrisseys has set a deadline of June 8 for selling the venue at the Old Harcourt Street train station.

John Reynolds, owner of the Pod, had explored the possibility of converting it into a hotel.

AIB appointed a receiver to Reynolds’s company in 2012, on foot of €10m debts, and the nightclub was closed. A plan to lease it to the businessmen Thomas Anderson, Colin Dolan and Michael Ormond ended in High Court litigation following delays signing the lease.

The High Court last year ruled Reynolds was entitled to €684,000 to compensate him for lost rent and bills for commercial rates and insurance.

The judge Brian Cregan said that Anderson, Dolan and Ormond acted in bad faith when they delayed in signing the Pod lease.
