This animated tale takes an interesting premise and drains the joy out of it. It’s essentially E.T. backwards. A sci-fi nut, Lem (voiced by Justin Long), discovers an alien in his cupboard and shelters him from the authorities until he can help him to get back home. The switch being that Lem is a little green man and the alien is a Nasa astronaut, Chuck Baker (Dwayne Johnson). Genre fans will enjoy counting off references to Alien, 2001: A Space Odyssey et al, but the characterisation is beyond broad, while the humour is relentlessly juvenile.
