Phone service breaks down language barriers

A telephone service has been launched that can get you out of jam when you are having difficulty communicating with someone while you are on a business trip.

Pass The Phone’s 24-hour telephone helpline service is staffed by translators fluent in Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Portuguese and English. In the event of an emergency, you call them up and explain the situation before passing the phone to the person you are having trouble communicating with. The company’s translators can also make phone calls on your behalf.

Lifetime membership costs 20 euro (£14) and calls to the Pass The Phone number are then charged at the standard international rate to Spain, where the service is based. Non-members can also use the service by phoning a premium rate number.
