Brown’s side trip secret

A DAY of sheer pleasure is, of course, bad for both body and soul, so it is nice to see Gordon Brown combining a bit of work with his play.

En route to last night’s England-Sweden match (like any true Scot, Gordon is behind England all the way), we learn, the Chancellor stopped off for a secret spot of hobnobbing with the party’s MEPs in Brussels.

He was seen entering room 3h01 in one of the parliament buildings with 30-plus members in tow, and sneaking away afterwards. All journalists were avoided. So what was this secret meeting about? “It wasn’t secret,” says the Treasury press office.

“Although we can’t tell you what it was about. You should speak to the Labour Party press office.”

“We don’t know anything about it,” says the Labour Party press office. “Try Gordon’s special media adviser.”

“What was it about?” says Gordon’s media adviser’s PA. “I couldn’t say. Maybe you should try the Treasury press office.”

All most mysterious.
