Pensions strategy

The lack of a clear, long-term strategy for pensions meant that value for money could not be demonstrated

Sir, In your report (June 25) the National Audit Office is represented as saying that many of the arguments in the debate around public-sector pensions are rooted in “misinformed prejudice”. The NAO has never used this phrase. Our recent report found that, while significant savings were projected through transferring the costs of public-sector staff living longer from the taxpayer to the employees, the lack of a clear, long-term strategy for pensions meant value for money could not be demonstrated.
