THE USE OF THE STARS
Sir, — Your correspondent, Mr. Tom Harrison, states that astrological popularity has been underestimated and that these beliefs are symptoms which cannot be ignored. This is very true, though not in the derogatory sense he apparently intends.
One must of course challenge the traducers of astrology with the question, “Have you studied the science?” Newspaper astrology is perhaps frivolous from the scientific aspect, as are patent medicine advertisements. Are the people who read them any more serious students of the science lying behind these cheap exteriors? They do not stop to consider the almost godlike perfection of the rhythmic working of the planetary system. Astrology is basically the study of the physiological working of the planetary system, while astronomy is the study of its anatomy. Physiology and anatomy are complementary studies. The human unit works, basically, just as the planetary unit works.
Astrological predictions are conclusions drawn, accurately or otherwise, from empirical study of basic causes. Inaccuracies of medical diagnosis do not condemn medical science as such. I have the privilege of lecturing to doctors, psychologists, and lay societies, and can testify to the deep interest attached to its exposition.
Editors and scientists repeatedly refuse to give attention to this great subject, which is the underlying principle of all life, be it represented by atomic physics, economics, or social relationships, and merits the term “The Pattern of the Cosmic Working.” It is time to challenge this ignorance and prejudice. I do challenge them. Will they take up the gage?
