Passions: chocolate

JON ENOCH

I am a chocoholic. It is my only vice. I eat a lot more of it than I should do. Luckily, I can get away with it.

• We get fat-tested an awful lot in the Sale Sharks squad, but fortunately the rest of my diet is good and I do sort of watch how much chocolate I eat before a big game. I wear an extra layer of clothing in training to sweat it off.

• I blame Jason Robinson for getting me addicted. When he played for Sale, he was sponsored by Cadbury’s and every couple of months he would pull up at the training ground in his Range Rover, open the boot and throw boxes of free chocolate to the boys. He was like the Milky Bar Kid.

• Christmas is a nightmare. People know how much I love chocolate and that seems to be all they buy me. Although I won’t go out specifically to buy chocolate, I will binge on it if there is some in the house. After Christmas I had so much left I decided that I had to eat it all in one evening so that there was none left. My missus did say that I didn’t have to eat it, that I could just throw it out, but I said: “No way.”

• Her sister bought me membership of an upmarket chocolate club. It’s like a wine club only every fortnight they deliver a massive slab of chocolate. It was a quality present but exactly what I do not need.

• It’s got to be milk or white chocolate for me, not dark. And whenever we go out for dinner I’ll be eyeing up chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert. I own a small chocolate fountain and am considering having a big one at my wedding.

• My go-to at a petrol station is a Snickers Duo. Sometimes I just put a tenner in the tank so I know I have to go back.
