Some of rarest and most expensive cars in the world are to be displayed together in Scotland for the first time.

The Palace of Holyroodhouse will open its grounds to this year’s Concours of Elegance, exhibiting more than 100 cars ranging from 1902 to the modern day. Among the vehicles on display will be the largest ever collection of 11 cars from Ecurie Ecosse, the Scottish racing team, formed in 1951.

There will also be a tribute to Sir Jackie Stewart, the Milton-born former Formula One racing driver, showcasing his three world championship-winning F1 cars. It will be the first time they have been together in one place.

Iain Campbell, chief operating officer of the event, said: “It’s a unique collection, a one-off, never to be seen again.”

Sixty cars make up the main Concours. Visitors can also see a Ferrari 250 GTO, sold at auction in 2012 for a former record of almost $40million, and a Ferrari 275 GTB/4 NART Spider, one of ten built.

Mr Campbell said: “The event was organised to celebrate the Queen’s diamond jubilee, that’s why there are 60 cars.”

Two Formula One cars driven by two-time world championship winner Jim Clark will also be on show.

The charity fundraising event, which began at Windsor Castle in 2012, will run from September 4 to 6.
