THE ICC and Darrell Hair, the umpire, have been accused of making “inappropriate and prejudicial” comments by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) before the code of conduct hearing against Inzamam-ul-Haq this month.
Shahryar Khan, the PCB chairman, has written to Malcolm Speed, the ICC chief executive, saying that his board is “very concerned and disappointed” at statements from the accusing parties at the Brit Oval Test, which Pakistan forfeited after Hair changed the ball because of alleged tampering.
The PCB will ask for a formal order that no more statements will be made by any of the relevant parties before the hearing on September 27 and 28. Khan believes that Speed and Hair might have broken the same code of conduct quoted against Pakistan last week when the ICC told them to be silent or risk further charges.
Speed has been sympathetic towards Hair’s demand for $500,000 (about £265,000) to resign after the Oval Test, while Hair has spoken at length to a Sunday newspaper.
