Sir, As a pensioner, I must stick up for the Glyndebourne audience, who are not all there on a corporate jolly (Richard Morrison, June 25). No doubt business networking goes on, but what I see is people of all ages and means enjoying themselves in a civilised way in beautiful surroundings — and it is not always cold. The food and drink are plus points, and most people bring their own picnics anyway.
The dress code means that all are equal: it is not a psychological barrier, it is a practical equaliser and should be lauded as such, not condemned.
The other day I could not tell who, of whichever sex, had been sitting in the stalls at £200 or standing in the upper circle at £10 (a lot less than the price of a Glastonbury ticket).
