Oliver Sweeney shoes bought out of administration

The founders of Oasis and Warehouse chains have teamed up with a former M&S executive to rescue Oliver Sweeney shoes

The founders of the Oasis and Warehouse fashion chains have teamed up with a former Marks & Spencer executive to rescue Oliver Sweeney, the upmarket shoe designer worn by celebrities including Brad Pitt and Noel Gallagher.

Amery Capital, which was founded by Maurice Helfgott, the former Marks & Spencer menswear boss, and Michael and Maurice Bennett bought Oliver Sweeney out of a pre-pack administration. PricewaterhouseCoopers were appointed after the company ran into financial difficulties.

Oliver Sweeney, who founded the eponymous company, will stay on as a designer. The company turned over £6 million last year and its shoes are available from a handful of stand-alone stores and department stores, such as Harvey Nichols and Selfridges.

Mr Helfgott said: “I have been an admirer of Oliver’s shoes for almost 20 years and am very pleased to be able to invest behind the brand to ensure the success it deserves in the UK and around the world.”
