Northamptonshire v Somerset

NORTHAMPTON (Northamptonshire won toss): Somerset Sabres (2pts) beat Northamptonshire Steelbacks by five wickets

IT IS not hard to imagine what those who scoff at Twenty20 cricket would have made of a match reduced to 12 overs per side, but given the nailbiting climax here last night, few fans could have argued that they did not get their money’s worth.

Keith Parsons, who hit an unbeaten 32 off 24 balls, clipped a four down to third man off the last ball to bring Northamptonshire’s three-match winning start to an end. Rain and lightning, which damaged the scoreboard, had delayed the start, before a quickfire 24 from David Sales steered Northamptonshire to 95 for six, but it never looked like being enough.
