Sir, Jane Parsons (letter, Jan 14 ) suggests that an unexpected blessing of the freeze is “the absence of expeosed wobbling midriffs and hairy torsos in skimpy vests”, adding that “Even they had to wrap up”.
It is telling that she writes from Devon, rather than Newcastle or Carlisle, where such concessions to the weather would be roundly mocked. Further evidence of the North-South divide?
