Sir, Martin Edgar (letter, June 1) requests that chairs be designed to fit the curves of the human spine, but whose spine? Would he also ask that his doctor examine him on a wavy examination table?
More usefully, J. Messenger (letter, May 31) recommends the Alexander technique, which teaches us to sit straight, with natural ease.
The human musculoskeletal system provides the necessary postural support — how else could we stand or sit up? We betray this mechanism at our peril — a question of use it or lose it.

Sir, The model for whom the majority of park benches are designed must have a very strange bottom. They certainly do not accommodate mine.
