Sir, Melanie Reid (Notebook, Mar 9) ridicules the veterinary use of euphemisms such as “pass away”. In my practice days, if I could help in even a small way to mitigate owners’ very real anguish by the appropriate use of a euphemism, such as “put to sleep”, I would unashamedly do so.
