Nine hurt as glacier horse bolts

NINE British pensioners holidaying in Norway were injured, three seriously, when a horse pulling their carriage from a glacier bolted last night.

The 51 British tourists in horse-drawn carts were on the Briksdal Glacier in the west of the country when a horse ran off the road.

Its cart collided with several others, throwing passengers into the road and on to rock-strewn verges. The most seriously hurt suffered head injuries and broken bones.

One victim was found a kilometre from where the first horse bolted and police believe that he must have held on to the cart for fear of being thrown out. Ambulances and three helicopters took the injured to hospitals. None has yet been named.
