Evidence is needed to prove that the NHS reforms will mean that patients make fewer visits to hospitals

Sir, Hospitals provide the base for the specialist teams that provide the facilities, expertise, skills and technology to support innovative GPs to “make happen” the management of patients with long-term conditions in the community. Perhaps Lord Crisp (letter, Mar 28) could share the evidence that leads him to assert that community-based services should be boosted by transfer of hospital resources to them so that only occasional recourse to hospitals will prove necessary for people with these disorders.
