Sir, Professor Robert Elkeles (letter, Dec 1) is right to put some of the blame for NHS management failures on politicians from all parties and on “wrong-headed academic health advisers”. The ways that we develop policies for the organisation of the NHS are dysfunctional.

An all-party select committee could make an early and useful contribution to this neglected topic.
