Sir, The deficits incurred by a number of foundation hospitals (report, June 25) could result in a postcode lottery of reduced care to patients as hospitals are forced to balance their books.
I encourage the new Minister of State for Health to take this opportunity to completely rethink the structure of the current health service, which is essentially a Tory idea perpetuated by a Labour Government.
Would she dare to return to the truly national system implemented by her eminent predecessor of Ebbw Vale? This would do away with the fragmentation caused by trust or foundation hospitals, together with the resultant duplication of management, which eats into NHS finances.
