Supermoon set to light up skies
Sky-watchers are set to see a dramatic “supermoon” in the sky tonight as it comes within 220,000 miles of Ireland. The cosmic phenomkenon, also known as the perigee moon, happens when the moon is 30,000 miles closer to Earth than the farthest point in its orbit. “It is 30% brighter and it will be 15% wider and 15% taller than a normal full moon. Then there will be an added moon illusion which will make it look even bigger,” said David Moore of Astronomy Ireland.
Attacks Probed
Gardai have charged a man, 36, in connection with the investigation into the killing of Maria O’Brien, a resident at St Otteran’s Psychiatric Hospital, right, in Waterford on Friday. He is due to appear in court tomorrow. Three people suffered stab wounds during the incident.
Greyhound workers reject offer

Striking Greyhound waste disposal workers called an offer of settlement from the company’s management an “absolute insult designed to split the workforce”. Ray Reilly, a spokesman for the workers who have been on strike for 12 weeks, accused the company of retreating from an offer made last week at the Labour Relations Commission.
