TWO men are to appear before Omagh magistrates charged with attempted murder in connection with a car chase in Dromore, Co Tyrone. Police opened fire when a driver ignored signals to stop.

Friends killed

TWO friends who shared the same birthday were killed yesterday morning when the car in which they were backseat passengers hit a wall. Thomas O’Grady, 21, an air corps cadet, and Robert Lineen, 20, a farmer, were from Lismore, Co Waterford, where the accident occurred. Two other men in the car were hurt and a fifth was unharmed.

Fianna Fail boost

SUPPORT for Fianna Fail is up three percentage points to 37%, according to an opinion poll published today. Support for Fine Gael is down four percentage points to 23%. The majority of respondents said an alternative rainbow government would be better or no different than the existing one.
